Inspiration & Concept

“Titanic”

The Titanic’s story is well-known and was the inspiration for our game idea. We’re developing a puzzle-based click game where the narative is vital. The game unfolds on a cruise ship, allowing us to create engaging narratives. We’ve incorporated the sinking ship concept with limited space, making the ship encounter a disaster with rising water levels, reducing the survival space.


Phantom Seascape

Phantom Seascape" is a point-and-click puzzle solving game where players must navigate a sinking cruise ship, facing urgent challenges in seven scenes that replicate the layout of a real ship.

Gameplay

Gradually Shrinking Living Space

We have arranged 7 rooms on 4 different levels based on the ship's structure, allowing players to explore between these rooms. However, seawater continuously floods the cabins, rising from the lower levels to the upper ones. Players cannot stay for an extended period in rooms submerged by water. As a result, the player's living space progressively diminishes, effectively imposing a soft time limit and heightening the tension in the game.

Puzzle-solving

We have created three chains of clues in the game, each corresponding to a key. Collecting all three keys allows access to the captain's quarters, unlocking the final puzzle and completing the game. We have extensively optimized the puzzle-solving content, improving the logical flow of puzzles and providing players with more guidance. Players need to solve these puzzles before the cruise ship sinks completely.

In the 72-hour category of Ludum Dare 54, we achieved the overall ranking of 250th.

Sinking Vessel & Rising Water

Inorder to fits the theme of competetion, “Limited Space”, we crafted an experience where players take on the role of a passenger on a sinking cruise ship. With the water level rising steadily, survival space becomes scarcer, and players must escape before the ship goes under.

Collection & Dialogue

In the game, players primarily collect items and engage in conversations by clicking, obtaining clues and searching for tools. In subsequent optimization, we extensively improved the arrangement of these tasks, ensuring logical coherence for player discovery and understanding. Sufficient time is provided for players to complete tasks before the rooms are entirely submerged.

Narrative

We crafted a background story and a concise plot for the game. As players explore, they will discover more and more clues, gradually realizing the truth behind the sinking ship.

Regardless of whether the player can successfully complete the game, it leads to the same tragic ending. Players come to the realization that they are merely the protagonist's lingering spirit, and the protagonist has already perished with the sinking cruise ship. Unveiling the truth behind the ship's sinking is a quest for the soul's liberation.


VFX

Special effects production is my primary responsibility within the team, and these effects bring life to static game scenes.
